Ronda was AWESOME!!!!!

Well everybody! What a week!

Ronda was AWESOME!!!!! The coolest thing by far that I have seen in Spain!!! I will send a lot of pictures!!! Me and Elder Crandall went to the Oldest Bullfighting ring in the world as well and that was super neat! We left on a train at 10 in the morning and got there just before 12. We had to catch the train back at 5 so we were pretty rushed but we hiked down to the bottom of the bridge and got some sweet pictures! The hike was pretty sketchy but the view was worth it!!! What a great P Day!!

Saying goodbye to Torremolinos was hard. I did realize that I was done there though. I all of a sudden got so dead of being there after my call haha. 6 months in an area is a long time! It was hard to say bye to my converts and the members that I had grown so close to. I hate leaving investigators too! I always feel like they are my responsibility and I hate ¨passing¨ that responsibility to someone else. But I think everything should be good there. :) Lots of pictures will be attached.

I really am enjoying my new area so far! Granada reminds me a lot of the United States by the way it looks. It is a university city and looks very nice. The streets are all really big and there´s ¨houses¨ I guess we could say haha. Nothing like at home but it seems a lot more like the states here. Elder Oldroyd is awesome! I like him a lot. He served in Torremolinos before me so we have lots of stuff to talk about. Our district is fun! Doing my first district meeting was really fun too! I love doing talks! And I guess this district was not a fan of the last DL so I have to make up for that :). I´m really loving everything about this area so far. We teach English class on Friday nights and we teach the advanced class so we just converse with the people and it´s really great!

We don´t have much as far as investigators but we are gonna fix that real soon!!! We have some great goals and are gonna meet them! I really would love to baptize with Elder Oldroyd before he goes home. I am very greatful that he is not dead :)

My address here is: c/ Ovidio Nº2, Esc. 2, 5º2

SPAIN

So I would LOVE letters! haha. I like being able to read things throughout the week. And it takes WAY to long to go through the mission office.

Everything is still great! I love the work! I know it´s true! I am so happy to be serving my Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

Love you all!

Grenada here he comes!!!!!

Alrighty everybody, this is gonna be super quick because we are taking our entire P day to go to RONDA!!!! I´m super excited and I know you guys are too because it´s on of the places you guys wanted me to go see. It´s the place with the SUPER huge bridge. So we are going there and have to catch a train and only have 30 minutes to email. I will send TONS of pictures next week!

Quick catch up though.... I am leaving Torremolinos. I´m going to Granada on Wednesday and I´m gonna be companions with Elder Oldroyd. I know him. I´ve actually been on splits with him before and he served in Torremolinos before I did. So it should be good. He is from Mesa too. He went to school with Elder Cowley. He is ending his mission in just over a month. So I´ll be killing again :) But I am district leader over a big district in the mission so I´m really excited for that and to go do splits and numbers and baptismal interviews. And something I have always loved in the mission is preparing talks for district meeting so it will be super awesome to do that.

It´s sad to leave Torremolinos and especially Elder Cowley. But I´ve been here for a long time and was getting pretty disanimated about walking the same streets every day with the same people. So this change will be really good! I am going to miss a lot of people and have already said goodbye to quite a few and I HATE that haha. But the change will be really good. Don´t worry mom, I have been taking pictures of all the people and I will send them all next week.

I love you guys and I hope you have a great week! I´ll be sending lots of pictures next week in Granada!!!

Love,

Elder Marchant.

By the way, I am SOOOOOO proud of you guys for studying Preach My Gospel!!! :) Pray for names to give to the missionaries when they come over next week!

What a week! It´s be great but it´s been rough!

One thing that really impressed me that I saw this week was that a few days ago, we passed by a member to ask her about her friend that we had seen her with a few days earlier and asked her if her friend maybe would be interested in our Message. She said no and that her friend was strong in her own church. We just bore our testimony about how we know the Lord is preparing people for us. After a minute of silence, this member said, ¨Are you guys in a hurry? Let me call me friend and she if she wants to come over.¨ She called her friend and just asked her if she wanted to come over and eat some corn with her haha. Her friend came up and we had a GREAT lesson with her about the Atonement! I was very impressed by this member´s courage and testimony to her friend during the lesson. It was one of the coolest things I have seen in the mission.

Angeles dumped us. That was rough. She has been my only hope of having a baptism here this transfer and she was progressing so much and all of a sudden I called her and she said that she feels like she has done enough with us and doesn´t want to talk about the Church, or baptism or anything else like that with us anymore. I talked to her on the phone for like 30 minutes but she wouldn´t change her mind. I wanted to throw the dang phone out the window into the ocean and have it eaten by a giant fish and then have that fish get eaten by a shark! I was SO frustrated!!! By far the hardest part about being a missionary. When you see someone progress and they tell you that they know the Book of Mormon is true and then something happens and they quit. And I can´t do anything. Then we saw her on the street later that night and it was just like that feeling when you get dumped by your girlfriend and then see her in the hall the next day. haha. But I felt like we needed to stop and talk to her. So we went and just talked to her about music. She likes music and I sang her a song I knew in Spanish out in the street and we talked about Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble and about Les Miserables. Just normal for a while. She told us that she hopes that we are friends forever and that she wants us to keep passing by every once in a while. We saw her last night on the street as well. We think she just needs a little time. Everything will all work out.

We´ve been dropped by several more of our good investigators this week as well. It´s been rough but maybe they just need time to think. We are gonna be busy this week finding new people.

This weekend I will find out if I stay here or not. Don´t know if I told you guys but Elder Cowley expressed to President Deere that he didn´t feel very comfortable being here with me leaving and President Deere asked me how I felt about staying here for a 5th transfer. It rarely happens but we will see what happens :) I´m pretty torn. I´ve been praying like crazy for a baptism with Elder Cowley and I really wanna finish his training. I don´t wanna leave my converts here at all. But I have been here a long time. I will be happy with whatever though :)

Well, hope you guys all have a great week! Love you all! Love the work! :)

Will he be transferred or will he stay???

So I only have 1 big story this week. I'm so tired that I can't remember ANYTHING else that happened before it this week! haha

So the Recent Convert, Marcel that I've been teaching since his baptism disappeared about a month ago. He sent us a text that said that he was going to Madrid for a few days and that he'd call us when he got back. Well he never did so we started calling him every day but it always went straight to voicemail. We went by his house a few times but nothing. So Saturday night I get a phone call from him and he says "Hey I'm in Malaga getting on a bus to the Netherlands and flying to Aruba from there. Just wanted to say goodbye to you." Then I asked him where the heck he's been and he says that he's been home the whole time. He never went to Madrid. I guess he got in a fight with the bishop so he decided to disappear and not see anyone until he left for Aruba. He changed his phone number and just stayed in his house for a month. He really stressed me out with what happened with the bishop and everything but we finally figured stuff out and hung up. Then an hour later he calls and says "I am so dumb! The bus left at 9 this morning! Not in the night!" So he needed a ton of help because he had all of his bags and couldn't change his flight from the Netherlands and needed a way to get to the Netherlands. So we cancelled our appointments for the night and took the train into Malaga and had 2 other Elders come with us to help. We carried his bags all over the place and finally went to the church so he could use the wifi to talk to some friends from Haiti to lend him money to get a flight. We ended up being with him in the church until midnight!!!! We were all so frustrated but he needed help and we couldn't just leave him! Then he finally got the ticket and we had to help him find a hotel and carried all his bags. The first 2 hotels were completely full and we finally found one! We had to stay in the Elder's piso in Malaga because the trains and buses had quit going to Torremolinos. Got to sleep around 4 because of how crazy the night was. THEN.....we had to go to church the next day WITHOUT suit jackets or scriptures because we were NOT expecting to stay the night in Malaga! hahaha. It was a rough day :) But hey! A good story. One that I hope NEVER happens again!

Everything else is going pretty good. Aside from the crazy week we had and missing a lot of work time because of lots of meetings, interviews, and crazy Marcel, we had a really good week. Had a few investigators in church and are meeting LOTS of our goals. Our hard work is paying off.

We had interviews with President this week and I guess that my companion expressed to President that he was really scared for me to leave. Because I am supposed to be leaving in 2 weeks because of how long I've been here. But President asked me in my interview if I would be okay staying here 1 more transfer. I told him that I love the area and would love to finish Elder Cowley's training and I understand completely if I need to stay. So I guess we'll see what happens! 7 and a half months in 1 area almost NEVER happens. But we'll see :). I'll be fine with whatever.

Well that's about it for this week. We are SUPER ready for it to cool down! :) It's been so hot and humid for quite a while! But everything is great!

I love you guys! Have a great week! :)

Alrighty everybody....

Alrighty everybody,

to start out, I need to tell my family how AWESOME they are for studying Preach My Gospel! :) It will be a HUGE blessing and you guys will be blessed with many experiences that put to work what you are learning! Don't be afraid!!! :)

So I need to tell you guys a funny story. Do you remember the guy named Jose Luis that I shared my story with about the play? Well we've been super tight since then and we usually see him every week. He's a little crazy but he's a great guy. Well my family knows that a few months ago I was thinking a lot about what I want to be when I grow up and do when I get home because I was super confused. Well I just decided to forget about it because right then it didn't matter. About a week ago I was talking to an Elder and remembered about a dream I've had for a long time about making a Grilled Cheese Sandwich Restaurant with a ton of different Grilled Cheese Sandwiches (And having the special Marchant Grilled Cheese w/ Jam) haha. Well I sat down and started making a list of all the different Grilled Cheese sandwiches that I could make. :). Well the other day we were with Jose Luis and he said to me "Elder, I've been having this dream. I've had it twice and if I ever have the same dream 3 times it comes true. So I want to tell you about it. I've been dreaming that I was with you in the United States working some kind of weird sandwich shop. You and your dad were the owners and I was working there. Well this restaurant became super famous! Even the prophet came to eat there!" hahahaha! He just kept telling me about the restaurant! He described the uniforms and the sandwiches (grilled cheese by the way. they just don't have those here) and everything! It was so weird!!! He said he'd call me if he had that dream again :). hahaha!

Anyways, it's been a good week. On Thursday afternoon, all of a sudden I felt a HUGE relief of stress...... I don't have any clue why :). haha. It's been a lot better! Me and Elder Cowley have been working hard and seeing lots of miracles. And I have felt the Spirit stronger in the last few days than I have for a long time! :) We are in kind of a pickle... Our 3 GOLDEN investigators called us yesterday and kind of dropped us. They said that they are having a lot of doubts. But we think we know how to fix it! We were super bummed last night but after my bedtime prayer I felt like I needed to go look up a scripture. Well I found about the most AMAZING lesson plan ever which is exactly what these people need! So we are gonna be doing all we can to get in with them again! :) We know that if we do, we can fix everything!

So I will be sure to let you guys know how it all goes down this week! :) Everything is great though! We have good attitudes and lots of faith. I'm praying really hard that I can get a baptism here with Elder Cowley before I leave. But now it's my job to go do everything I can :).

Que tengáis una buena semana! Os queiro un montón!
Hasta ahora!

con cariño,

Élder Marchant

I LOVE his desire to work!

I love Elder Cowley!!! He is the best!! We get along super good and I LOVE his desire to work! We have seen so many miracles recently as well! Last Monday a woman called us and said that she wanted to meet with us. We set up a cita for the next day and she brought 2 friends with her. Turns out that they had been having some problems in the church they were attending. They also said they got our number because they saw one of our investigators at their church and she was "so much happier than usual" so they went and asked why and our investigator gave them our number! We had a great first lesson with them and Elder Cowley invited them to be baptized and all three accepted! They couldn't come to church yesterday but they are still planning on being baptized in September! :) We are so excited and blessed!

Also, I've talked with you guys about Angeles before (The lady with the crazy dog that I've been teaching my whole time here). Well guess who came to church yesterday!? ANGELES!! I was SO surprised! We have invited her every week and she has never come! But I talked to her yesterday and she said that usually she doesn't come because she can't get up in time. And saturday night she prayed that she would be able to wake up and come to church. She woke up Sunday morning at 6 and couldn't go back to sleep! So she got up and got ready and came! :). She loved all the meetings and made TONS of friends! :) We showed her the baptismal font and will be talking to her again about baptism this week! :) I WANT TO BAPTIZE HER SOOOOO BAD!:) haha. I am praying really hard to be able to baptize with Elder Cowley. I gotta do it quick because I'm not gonna be the missionary finishing his training. President told me that he has stuff for me to do and that I'll be out of here in September.

I've had a few of you guys asking me about the weather here. It's terrible! It is SO dang humid and hot! haha. I am SO grateful that we have a good AC in our piso! I get out of the shower in the morning and literally never get dry! Super ready for fall here ! ;)

Well everything is going great! Elder Rodriguez leaves on Thursday and then it will be just me and Elder Cowley tearin' it up here in Torremolinos! :)

Have a great week everybody and I love you guys!

New companion...

My new missionary is really cool. His name is Elder Cowley and he´s from Mesa, Arizona. He´s a stud! I don´t think he´s opened up completely but I´m sure it´s weird for him to be with 2 missionaries that are completely opened up to each other all ready. He´s awesome though.

I went to Fuengirola on Tuesday and the first thing we did was sit everyone down and we got to find out who our ¨kid¨ was gonna be. Then we went and ate dinner and just hung out and got to know everyone and had a meeting after that. Just like a last little orientation thing for the new missionaries. The next morning the trainers just hung out in the office for a while whilst the kids went and did residency stuff. Then we all just went back to our areas.

Elder Cowley´s ¨first door´ experience was pretty funny. He knocked a door and no one answered and then he knocked the next one and that guy answered and the OTHER guy answered the other door at the same time. Without thinking, me and Elder Rodriguez went to the SAME guy and Elder Cowley got SUPER left out to dry with the other guy COMPLETELY alone! hahaha I felt so bad! But he was a good sport about it and had a real good attitude.

Something that really stuck out to me that President Deere told the trainers was ¨Even though you guys think that if YOU invite, and teach, and do all that stuff that it will come out better because you speak the language, I PROMISE you that it won´t be like that. I promise that the miracles will come when you let your new missionaries teach, and extend invitations.¨ Well the other day I taught Elder Cowley how to invite to be baptized and everything and told him that THAT day he would invite someone to be baptized. Well we taught a woman that day and at the end of the lesson I was nudging him and telling him to invite but Elder Rodriguez invited the woman to be baptized (which was really weird because he never does that) and she said no. Well I asked her why not and solved her doubt and everything and then I nudged Elder Cowley HARD haha. He invited her and the spirit was strong and everything was quiet and she said YES! IT was awesome! I couldn´t believe it haha! So we have a baptismal date right now and are really looking forward to it! Elder Cowley is a machine and is super ready to work!!! When Elder Rodriguez gets home we are going to go CRAZY here!!! :) We gon´ baptize da world!! haha!

President basically told me that he has plans for me this next transfer and that I need ´to get everything done that I need to quickly with Elder Cowley´ So I am gonna be working REALLY hard for a baptism with him!

He´s great. Really looking forward to working with him more.
